Get behind enemy lines
Relish the stories depicting the life of every Australian soldier who deployed and fought on Afghanistan soil in this new permanent exhibition at the Australian War Memorial. Conflicts in the Middle East may be over, but the stories behind their exceptional efforts to prevail peace in such a hostile environment are never forgotten.

These collections of stories illustrate the ordeals our soldiers endured to combat terrorism, and their remarkable determination to create democracy and stabilisation in the Afghan nation, as unravelled first-hand by the veterans and their families.

For over a decade, Australians, together with its international allies across the world, have joined forces to reconstruct and promote security in this region. It is a story that exemplifies our modern day ANZACs. Displays will continue to vary as fresh and in-depth stories are elaborated and shared by the veterans.
