December is a busy month with all the end-of-the-year parties, Christmas drinks and catch-ups. Everyone want a delicious healthy, light feast without adding too much to the already bulging waistline! So my friend recommended Aegean Blu because it is located right next to Darling Harbour and they offer authentic flavorsome Greek food.
The restaurant's decor clearly designed to allude diners to a Mediterranean setting, with the white-washed walls and the aroma of traditional Greek cuisine, one may well think they are in Mykonos rather than Pyrmont at Sydney Darling Harbour.
The slow cooked octopus was marinated in vinaigrette and served on a bed of rocket salad. The octopus pieces were rather tender and the flavours were light and refreshing. We loved the lemon tanginess the lemon juice brought to the dish.
Zucchini Flowers $14.00 (3 flowers stuffed with four different kinds of Greek cheeses)
The fresh zucchini flowers were filled in with four different kinds of Greek cheeses and it was one of my favorite dishes. The saltiness of the cheese filling was very addictive and beckoned us to go for more.
The cheesey lamb mince bake was heavenly with layers of potatoes, eggplant and home made bechamel sauce. The serving size was quite substantial. However, I did find this particular moussaka was too creamy and rich for my liking after a few spoonfuls.
Last but not least, we got a Chicken Souvlaki Platter to fill up our hollow legs. There were 3 aromatic chicken skewers served with chunky cut chips, a small salad, pita bread and a homemade Greek pesto.
We were finally feeling full after all these dishes and our common senses kicked in and forbid us to peek the dessert menu. It was definitely a 'our eyes bigger than our stomach' moment.
