So you've done all the bushwalks, attended all the markets, been to all the festivals and sampled all the cafes and boutiques around town. Well, rather than sticking with the safe options and doing the same old thing every weekend, why not have a go at something new and adventurous that will not only spark your interest, but may even lure you in to adopting a new hobby. If you're not sure where to start or even what kinds of things you should be thinking about here are my top 5 out there and exciting activities that you may have seen happening around town but probably never tried.

1 – Dragon Boat Racing –

Twenty people, one long thin boat with a dragon prow and a whole lot of synchronised paddling. My wife and I had a go at this a few months ago after seeing a flyer at a market stall and we had a blast. There are a few clubs dotted up and down the river as well as a couple in the bay areas. Most train a few mornings a week and generally hold beginner orientated training sessions on a Saturday morning for newcomers. Some clubs even do 'come and try' packages that mean you get a good taste of the sport before forking out all the money for membership and equipment. It's a great way to get active, have some fun and get out on the water!

2 – Circus Skills Classes –

Ever have that dream as a child of running away with the circus? Now you don't have to. Circa is a company based in Fortitude Valley that provides circus training for all ages and skill levels and provide weekly classes that focus on certain skills or a mix of different circus performance elements. However, if you don't want to sign up to a nine week course, they also have open training classes on Friday nights from 6pm-9pm and give you the option to pay per session or offer a discounted rate for ten prepaid sessions. For more information on the class times and anything else visit Circa.

3 – Have a Bash at Roller Derby –

Got some built up frustration from another aggravating week in the office? Just have the unrelenting urge to give yourself a cool name and bowl someone over on roller skates? Well Roller Derby might just be the pastime for you! Described as one of the fastest growing in popularity in the country, Roller Derby isn't just a sport, it's an event. Events are scattered all around the greater Brisbane area and occur monthly during the season so why not go along and witness the spectacle for yourself and if you're game strap on your pads and become 'fresh meat'! Brisbane City Rollers is where all the information can be found and as the website explains it is open to both men and women.

4 – Kite Surfing –

If you've ever been out near the bay on a wet and windy day you've probably sat in a warm dry café and looked out over the water at the crazy people out flying around on kite boards while you sip your cappuccino. You may have also seen kite buggying, a similar concept where you ride a buggy rather than a surfboard. Kite boarding is an adrenaline packed sport that gives anyone the chance to fly. Brisbane Kite School offer a range of 'learn to kite surf' packages aimed at all skill and fitness levels. Visit their website here for all the information on their classes.

5 – Rock Climbing and Abseiling –

Now, if you've spent any time around Kangaroo Point you've more than likely seen people climbing or abseiling the cliffs so this one isn't a newsflash for anyone. But if you've never given it a go then it is definitely something that can get the adrenaline pumping and give the muscles a workout. There are a number of different companies that run rock climbing and abseiling sessions at the cliffs and a simple google search will uncover the best deal for you but if in doubt River Life down by the river at Kangaroo Point is always a good option and will get you going. If however you have conquered Kangaroo Point and want another challenge there are quite a few more places to climb within the greater Brisbane area. For a complete list click here and pick the cliff that sparks your interest!

So if you're bored with the regular activities on offer and want to get out and experience something new and exciting, why not give one of these ideas a go and give yourself something amazing to talk about around the water cooler on Monday morning!
