The rich and unique taste of Thai cuisine is praised worldwide by food connoisseurs, and rightly so. The delicate flavors of ginger, chili, soy and meat or fish complement each other perfectly to create an unforgettable taste sensation.

But Thailand is also famous for an altogether different kind of eating experience. Take a stroll through any market in Thailand and you will come face to face not only with meat, fish, vegetables and fruit in abundance, but also a few other favorite Thai snacks that would turn the stomach of most westerners, but are a firm favorite with the Thai people. Cooked or fried right there on the street, you might encounter such delicacies as crickets, silkworms, beetles, smoke-dried frogs, turtles or rats skewered and barbequed over hot coals on the spot.

Then there is also pickled bamboo to choose from, fish in abundance and the odd squid on a stick. Whatever your fancy, you will probably find it at the market. The question is; how brave are you?

Even if you are not adventurous enough to crunch down on a bowl of black beetles, or nibble on a smoke-dried frog, the sights, sounds and smells of a Thai market are still a wonderful experience that will leave you with a wealth of treasured memories. Bon appetit, everyone!
