For most of us, 1994 was defined by repetitive singing of the musical scores the Circle of Life and Hakuna Matata from Walt Disney's 'The Lion King.' Now in 2013, a South African production company has attempted to repeat the tale for the Facebook-generation.

Adventure in Zambezia is a light-hearted tale of a paradise complete with an exotic African setting of a multicultural animal wonderland and full of the classic messages to be imparted to children.

It is a typical light hearted, family fun film complete with fuzzy creatures, cute humour and a happy ending that will keep your children smiling for days to come. However, it's not one that will have the adults laughing or likely to become a classic.

The story revolves around Kai, a spirited young falcon who travels from his suppressive father and desert country home in search of his freedom in the fabulous city of birds, Zambezia.

Whilst Kai is enjoying his new found independence and exoticly diverse friends, his father Tendai (voiced by Samuel L. Jackson) is captured by an evil lizard who is plotting to invade Zambezia and destroy it. That's where Tendai's back story comes into play and drives the narrative to reveal its plot twists. Kai and Zoe (his new love interest) rope together to save his father, the city and challenge notions of inequality embedded within the bird community.

As any good children's tale, it holds high its messages of teamwork, equality, community spirit and the strength of the bonds of friends and family. Just like the 1994 classic, the tale of African wildlife fighting for survival comes to life and reinforces the themes and messages that hit home for children today.

The film is perfect for 3D due to the great effects within the flying bird scenes, multiple quick cuts and extremely flashy colours which scream Africa on steroids! What lets the films down for adults is its predictability, repetitiveness and slight clichés. Not likely to be picked up by children though! They will love the upbeat mix of adorable characters, ghetto humour and that warm-fuzzy happy ending.

Adventures in Zambezia hits the screens in Australia just in time for the school holidays. It's guaranteed for a great family night out that will keep the children smiling and the adults reminiscing about the real circle of life story.
