The Nintendo DS seems to be the most appropriate medium to support this exciting TV show adaptation. Adventure Time is a cartoon about Jake the dog and Finn the human and their ridiculous exploits throughout the Land of Ooo.
You play as Finn (Jake usually sits inside your backpack). Finn can punch, kick and swing his sword. As you become more experienced new moves will become available. Jake offers longer range attacks. For example he can whirl his arm to hit baddies further away.
Some locations are blocked until you learn the right move to progress, which is a neat way of keeping the story linear and simple rather than being overwhelming. Early in the adventure Jake forms a massive fist to smash rocks and enlarges his ear to deflect missiles.
When you traverse the game's map world it is very similar to Pokemon. There are four visually different domains to explore Grasslands, Candy Kingdom, Red Rock Pass and the Ice Kingdom. Whether you are familiar with the show or not there is plenty to see and lots to do.
Ghosts will harass you as you walk between destinations. If a ghost touches you, and you are not wearing a gossamer cloak, then it will trigger an event that will transport Finn and Jake to a mini level where they will have to fight some Ooo creatures. As soon as the bad guys are defeated you can claim your reward from the chest.
A bizarre cast of characters populates the Land of Ooo. You will often come across unique treasures or things that other people can use. I used evidence to prove that Lemongrab's prisoners were innocent. Among the captives was a baby, which happened to belong to the Duke of Nuts.
Finn's stats can be enhanced too. Find stars to buff his 'hearts', 'attack' and 'speed'. Many of these stars are hidden in hard-to-reach places. This encourages players to revisit earlier parts of the game with their new abilities.
