I arrived with time to spare in my best fairy gear consisting of massive black fairy wings (I kept bumping into people and things with my wings, so I KNOW they were massive) that went from midway up my head all the way to my bottom and spanning beyond my shoulders; my wand, and my fairy tiara with sparkles all over my top.

Walking down the laneway (Carson Place), an unassuming building at the end but for the sign that said it was the Butterfly Club , it doesn't prepare you for what you're about to walk into. If like me, you've never been there, be prepared to be gobsmacked . They weren't kidding when they said they had an enormous amount of kitsch! It's on every level of the building. You could be rubber necking all night just to take in all in.

Saved by the bell (from neck and eye strain) that announced the show was about to begin, we walk back down one level from the upstairs private bar and enter a room with a small stage, church like pews, an assortment of cushions on the floor and on the side ledge for seating.

MD (musical director) and pianist Matthew Carey is at the piano and leads us into affirmations of believing in fairies so as to coax Fairy Tash ( Natasha York ) out onto the stage and into a room filled with believers.

Fairy Tash is not only young and gorgeous, she's oozing with talent and her humour is intelligent. She makes a mean balloon shape and can face paint professionally alongside the best from the festivals. Most surprising of all are her AMAZING vocals. She can sure hit those high notes and more than hold her own. As if that's not enough, she improvises and creates songs effortlessly in certain segments of her show, tailoring it to the person on stage.

We were entertained with a lot of songs that you might think sound familiar, but upon listening to the lyrics, you'll discover it's laden with humour and pregnant with a delivery to pack a punch.

Yes, there's audience participation and 'pass the parcel'. Beware if it falls on your watch because you could find yourself on stage at Fairy Tash's mercy.

This show is best taken with a whole lot of friends to be shaken and stirred. Get in early and enjoy the private bar upstairs (if you can tear your eyes away from the kitsch) before the show, and you can party on after the show or even catch the next show at the club. Put on your best fairy costume, sprinkle some fairy dust and fly out to see Fairy Tash.
