Kids typically get all the cool stuff – the best toys, the best games, the best shoes, but there is a recent trend for items that let adults enjoy all the best bits about being a kid: adult colouring-in books, adult collector dolls, eating with your hands at trendy new restaurants and finally, adult craft classes.

The Art Space Collective is a converted building, hidden down a lane and up some stairs in the beachside suburb of Scarborough. A joint project between Rin Norris and her friend and gallery owner Philomena Smillie, The Art Space is open to creative types offering a place for both exhibiting and learning.

Rin Norris, who became a household name in Perth in 2014 when her three children and their grandfather were killed aboard the MH17 disaster, is an artist herself, and has dedicated the Space to her three children while opening it up to the entire Perth community. You can read more about the Space here .

The range of classes offered in The Art Space Collective is broad and eclectic, and although they are constantly changing, these are some of the types of adult craft classes you will find.

Drawing and colouring classes including life drawing (yes, with a nude model) and colouring by Candlelight, billed as 'pilates for the mind'.

There are classes to learn both Crochet and macramé, classic skills being reinvented in funky new ways as well as a revival of string art, the fabulous artform from the 1970s.

You will find classes on candle making, making your own concrete pots from scratch, designing your own personal mandala and screen printing.

The Succulent Sistas offer classes in building your own terrarium (indoor garden) or perhaps you would prefer to learn the ancient art of shibori – a Japanese technique of dying fabric.

For more free-wheeling creative types you can attend art jam, for abstract free-form painting.

If you simply can't decide, you can enrol in the Connecting with the Collective Series, which offers six inspirational and creative classes over six months. It's the book club for people who prefer to 'do' rather than read.

Classes vary in length and timing – some are standalone sessions, others form part of a series. Costs can vary from $15 to $145 or more, and all are run by some of Perth's best artisans.

Some classes even include a glass of wine or bubbles to aid those creative juices. You can't get much more adult than that.
