Adelaide has a bit of a history with pies. There are the pie floaters, with their long standing South Australian history, a meat pie surrounded by a sea of mushy peas. The Adelaide pie cart that used to sit outside the casino, or local Vili's pies, a South Australian icon. We might not sit around eating pie floaters every weekend, but we do love a good pie. We want to know where Adelaide's best pies can be found.
The Port Elliot Bakery has plenty of support for being Adelaide's best bakery, and one of the reasons is because of their pies. They're baked fresh every morning, and these aren't just your regular meat pies. They have far more flavours available than your average bakery, and their own unique combinations are some of the favourites. From gourmet, to traditional, if you're after a pie you'll find a good one here.
Or, like we said before, there is Vili's. They're South Australia's most famous pies, and not only can you find them in just about every supermarket and servo, but they also have a 24 hour bakery cafe. There is also the Villi's Mega Van, turning up at events all over Adelaide with warm delicious pies. They have good pies, but the range isn't as impressive as the long list at the Port Elliot Bakery.
If you're on the other side of the fence, perhaps you barack for Balfour's Bakery. They're South Australia's other main pie suppliers, and have been supplying Adelaide with baked goods since the 1800s. They're responsible for one of South Australia's most memorable foods, the Frog Cake, but do their pies pass the test?
The Brighton Jetty Bakery is another place that has an interesting mix of pies. It seems they can take just about any meal, and make a delicious pie from it. Some of their unique range includes Yiros Pies, Thai Ginger, Lime, and Lemongrass Chicken Pies, and Hawaiian Steak Pies. The pies available change all the time, but you're sure to find something interesting if you pop in.
Perhaps the best pie you've had was a meat pie slathered in sauce, that you ate while watching a game of footy. Or maybe 3am is pie time, and you find the best options at 24 hour bakeries like the Vili's Cafe and Bakery on O'Connell. Wherever it's from, and whatever it is, we want your help to find Adelaide's best pie.
