Sure $1 hot dogs are a bargain, but we reckon if you're looking for a good hot dog in Adelaide you're best side-stepping IKEA, and instead try some of the other tasty options Adelaide has to offer. They might not be as convenient as a hot dog from Wendy's or Donut King, but we reckon they'll leave you far more satisfied. If you've had a quality hot dog in Adelaide, let us know where it can be found, and help us find Adelaide's best hot dogs.
We'll start of with American hot dogs. They're probably the most common, they're the type that you'll find at IKEA and Wendy's, a bun, sauce, mustard if you like. Well you probably won't look twice at an IKEA hot dog after trying the American hot dogs on offer at the
American Candy Stand . You can of course get a regular New York hot dog, but why not try something interesting, like the
Lady Liberty with cream cheese, baby spinach, bacon, onion, and sauce. There are plenty of toppings to choose from, and their hot dogs start at around $4.90.
Another popular hot dog, is the German hot dog. They're a little bit different from the American kind, and usually contain a kransky, sauerkraut, and seeded dijon mustard. The flavour is definitely different from what you might be used to. The
German Arms offer up their
Arms Giant Hot Dog, which is definitely a mean feat, but you haven't seen big until you've tried '
Australia's Largest German Hotdog ' at the nearby
Hahndorf Inn . This 1m hot dog has a bratwurst sausage, and plenty of sauerkraut. German hot dogs may not be everybody's cup of tea, but if you're a fan of German cuisine it can be hard to pass them by.
For something a little fancy you can't go past the
Gourmet Sausage Shop. While they do your regular snags, they also have gourmet sausages, with a range of different toppings. They're in the
Adelaide Central Markets , which is Adelaide's food haven, so it wouldn't be surprising if they could claim to be Adelaide's best. At least if you're in town you won't have to travel as far to try one of these.
So let us know where you think we can find Adelaide's best hot dogs. Is it a war between the Germans and the Americans, or is there an Aussie offering that just can't be passed up. Let us know which ones are your favourite, and just why they're so good.
