When it comes to festivals in Adelaide, there's one theme that reigns supreme: food. Sure we've started getting a number of music festivals, and we have great arts events like the
Fringe ,
Adelaide Festival of the Arts , and
OzAsia Festival , but you'll find food festivals to make your tastebuds sing all through the year. So we're taking a look at some of the food festivals in and around Adelaide, and trying to find the best.
Let us know what you think, and which one is your favourite.
Tasting Australia is one of the biggest food festivals. It's a week long affair and people come from all over Australia to try great produce, watching cooking demonstrations, and dine at restaurants all over Adelaide. There are numerous events held all over Adelaide as part of Tasting Australia, but the Feast for the Senses is a huge draw card. This free event is your gateway to the festival, there are samples, vendors, demonstrations, and more. All you need to do is start tasting. Tasting Australia's major downfall is that it's only held every two years.
A newer festival is
the Gourmet Barbecue Festival , which had it's first year in 2012. It's a lot more focused than Tasting Australia, with everything being about one thing. There are eating competitions, barbecue cook offs, live entertainment, cooking demonstrations, and plenty of vendors showing off their barbecuing skills. It's set to become an annual event, which will hopefully mean more local barbecue enthusiasts will get involved.
Cheesefest is another annual event with a very particular focus. It's a celebration of the Australian cheese industry, and see's cheesemakers from all over Australia come down to show off their wares. Obviously there's a big contingent of local Adelaide cheesemakers, and there are always plenty of delicious cheeses to taste. There are activities for everyone, they even set up rides and fun stuff to keep the kids entertained.
There are other food and wine festivals further out as well. Regional festivals include the
Riverland Wine and Food Festival , the
Clare Valley Gourmet Weekend , or the
Barossa Gourmet Weekend . Closer to Adelaide the
Sea and Vines Festival in McLaren Vale has made food a much larger focus of it's program.
So let us know which festival is your favourite to eat your way through, and help us find Adelaide's best food festival.
