Whether it is one of those Frog Cakes that South Australia is famous for, or a good Australian meat pie, South Aussie's love a good bakery. It doesn't matter if you're after a loaf of bread to make toast for breakfast, or if you're looking for some cakes to give the kids a treat, the quality of the bakery you buy from can really make a difference. I've heard good things about the
Port Elliot Bakery, but I'm yet to try it, so instead I've compiled a list of a few other Adelaide bakeries, but we still want your help in naming which one is the best.
Cafe De Vili's is a good place to start. Vili's is an icon in South Australia, and these pies are still made in the state and shipped around the world. Their cafe in Mile End is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You'll be able to find all of Vili's popular pies, pasties, cakes, and slices, as well as some special flavours that are only sold on site. You can also grab some to take home for later, or enjoy some of the other food at their cafe from schnitzels to burgers. They're great if you're after a pie, or if you just need a late night meal.
Another bakery that is open 24 hours a day is the
Bakery on O'Connell. Their food is always fresh, and they have a great range of pies and cakes for you to choose from. They are a popular spot on O'Connell Street and are usually busy whether it is 1 in the afternoon or 1 in the morning. They do a range of coffees and milkshakes to help their tasty food go down.
Then there is the
Orange Spot Bakery on Anzac Highway in Glenelg. They make some pretty strong claims of being 'Australia's Best Bread Bakery' and having 'Australia's Best Pasties'. We'll have to see if you agree. They have won plenty of awards and have danishes, donuts, tarts, and more. There are great place to grab a feed if you're down at Glenelg.
You might think that one of the many great Vietnamese bakeries around Adelaide deserves the title. WIth delicious fresh bread baked daily, as well as the flavour filled Banh Mi Vietnamese Rolls, you might think that one of these bakeries is the only place to shop.
So tell us about your favourite bakery in the comments, and let us know just why you think it's the best.
