My love of reading started at a very early age and today I have a library in my home which still contains many of those books that have been in my life since then. Enid Blyton's Storytime Book and Anna Sewell's Black Beauty still feature prominently on my shelves.

Over time, the genres I read have gone through many evolutions but I still read a variety of authors such as Judy Nunn, Wilbur Smith, Juliet Marillier and Barbara Erskine. And who can forget Diana Galbadon's Outlander series, that many of us wait with bated breath for the next book release.

It is well known that reading provides greater social and emotional benefits and its documented that children who read have improved concentration, vocabulary and language skills, greater creativity and imagination and a broader world view and let's face it, reading is fun.

If you have a little bookworm in your family then from 10 am to 3.30 pm on Saturday 27 February 2021 bring them along to Kids' Day as part of the opening weekend of Writers' Week 2021. Located at Pioneer Women's Memorial Garden, Cnr Victoria Drive and King William Street, Adelaide, Kids' Day features an all-Australian line-up of the brightest names in children's literature.

Suitable for children aged 2 to 12 years, popular authors Ursula Dubosarsky (The Terrible Plop and Brindabella), Davina Bell and Allison Colpoys (Under the Love Umbrella and All The Ways To Be Smart), Gavin Aung Than (Super Side Kicks series) and Adam Briggs (Our Home, Our Heartbeat) will be there.

There will be an abundance of free activities under the shade of the Plane Trees with Deb Twining Arts. Kids' Day events will be sure to delight and inspire the under 12's.

Kids' Day is free and will be operating under the Writers' Week COVID safe plan. Be COVID safe. Please check in on the SA Government COVID-Safe App, wear your mask and social distance.
