Returning for another super-charged season in 2015, the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra (ASO) has put together a stunning program of ballerinas, rock gods, disco queens and the best of British. In what is sure to have something for everyone the ASO has put the spectacular in to the Symphony.
ASO audience favourite, Guy Noble, conducts the perennially popular
Last Night of the proms, before he dons the white suit, platform shoes and big hair for a riotous and fun night as the
ASO Does Disco. Later in the year, the Australian Ballet School's graduating class take centre stage in
ASO at the Ballet, a concert of highlights from the great ballets, while Adelaide's own Zep Boys return to reprise the hugely successful
Zeppelin Flies Again.
Last Night of the Proms (27 March to 28 March)
Britannia Rules at the Festival Theatre in March as the ASO presents the
Last Night of the Proms with host and conductor (former 007 secret agent) Guy Noble. Embracing the sprit of the famous BBC Proms, this rousing program promises to please monarchists and republicans alike. With crowd favourites such as Rule Britannia, God Save the Queen and Jerusalem, this evening will celebrate the best of being British with flag waving welcome and stand-in-the-aisle salutations.
ASO Does Disco (24 July to 25 July)
In the midst of winter, it is time to slip on the platforms, dust off those groovy last century clothes, and get ready to boogie on down with Guy Noble and the ASO. The Festival Theatre becomes New York's legendary mirror balled Studio 54 as four great vocalists and the ASO perform disco classics by the Bee Gees, Donna Summer, Kool & the Gang, KC and the Sunshine Band, The Jacksons, the Village People and Earth, Wind and Fire. Expect to be instantly up on your feet with an evening of pure disco gold : That's The Way I Like It, I Will Survive, Disco Inferno, You Should Be Dancing, We Are Family, Blame It On The Boogie, You Can't Stop The Music and more.
ASO at the Ballet (20 November to 21 November)
Dancers from the Australian Ballet School share the stage with the ASO in this program of the most beautiful, poignant and thrilling highlights of the ballet repertoire. Featuring excerpts from Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty and much more, marvel at the athletic grace of Australia's next generation of ballet stars and be swept away by the sheer power and ethereal beauty of the world's finest orchestral ballet scores. Conducted by Marc Taddei, who recently returned from several seasons with the New York City Ballet, ASO and the Ballet is a program that will appeal to the entire family.
Zeppelin Flies Again (4 December to 5 December)
Back by popular demand, Led Zeppelin's most passionate disciples, The Zep Boys, join the ASO for a performance that will take excitement levels through the roof of the Festival Theatre. For over three decades The Zep Boys have been performing Led Zeppelin's music with a passion and commitment that has made them an Australian music institution. Following sell out tours in 2005 and 2007, the ASO and The Zep Boys collaborate once more to unleash their unique brand of rock in a show that's sure to thrill.
Each of the ASO's Showcase programs commence at 730pm at the Festival Theatre. Tickets normally sell quickly, so it pays to book early. Further details, including booking information, is available from the
ASO website or from their
facebook page .
The ASO Showcase program is part of the complete ASO program which incorporates 60 events over 2015 including the Masters Series, Great Classics, Classics Unwrapped and Family Shows just to name a few.
