Adelaide Street Food Festival Feeding Large Crowds (Image: Gurney Khera)
Markets in Adelaide are always popular weekend destinations. Leisurely browsing antiques and collectables, shopping for organic fruit and vegetables in the market stalls, then settling down to brunch and a coffee is a rewarding experience.
Undercover weekend markets in Adelaide do particularly well, and in only eighteen months the Flinders Street Market has proved to be a thriving and successful place. A lively assortment of vendors here sell everything from coffee to candles, and watermelons to waffles. It's a bustling, friendly place with a relaxed atmosphere perfect for an easy start to the day. You'll find large crowds here most weekends, but on the last weekend before Christmas the crowd at this market will be huge.

On December 19-20 the Flinders Street Market is holding their second Adelaide Street Food Festival, bringing together many market stalls selling cheap wholesome street food in Adelaide's CBD. The last Street Food Festival they held attracted around 20,000 people over one weekend, and with Christmas so close it's likely that this time the festival will be even busier.
With two large undercover areas housing at least 50 food trucks and market stalls selling a delightfully decadent assortment of food and wine (yes, there is a licenced) bar, you will want to come hungry to the Adelaide Street Food Festival. Oh, did I mention that it's free entry, there's free live music entertainment from a DJ and buskers, and you can even find free parking in the streets around the Flinders Street Market.
An awesome range of food trucks and street food vendors are coming to the Street Food Festival. Celebrity chef Simon Bryant will be showing the way with his hawker style street food at the Dirty Food market stall. An amazing array of world food will be available from other market stalls: Little Budapest, Insta StrEAT, French Cheese Truck, Haddo's Hot Dogs, Tiger Rolls Banh Mi, Beardface Bushfoods, Kokochi Japanese, Babs Greek BBQ, The Beiglery, and Sucre Patisserie will all compete for your attention.
Also on offer are Daisy Burger, Mr Twister (potato on a stick), and sweets and treats including Chocolate No 5, 48 Flavours Ice Cream, St George Cakes and Gelati, and Popsicool. Vegans and vegetarian foodies have not been forgotten with Instasalad and Vegan Eats covering your tastes, while Steve the Bartender and The Tea Catcher will make sure that you're never parched.
Volunteers from the Children's Cancer Research Institute will be wandering the crowd dressed up as elves and selling reindeer antlers for the charity.
Tasty Haddo's Hot Dogs at the Street Food Festival
The Adelaide Street Food Festival is the perfect way to unwind after doing your Christmas shopping in Adelaide. Given the large crowd, parking around this part of Flinders Street may be tight, so it may be quicker walking or catching public transport. After filling up on tasty street food a walk is probably a good idea anyway! Come for lunch, come for dinner - or come for both.
