Want to get fit and help out a good cause at the same time? The Adelaide Stair Climb is back for another year. Climb to the top of Adelaide's tallest building and help raise money for the North Adelaide based Childhood Cancer Association.
The event runs from 7:30 till 4:30, with teams running or walking the stairs throughout the day. Get there early in the morning and you'll be able to watch the two Everest Climbs; teams are made up of members of the Armed Forces and Emergency Services. The teams of 10 will climb the stairs 100 times in under 2 hours. Other events worth checking out are the Elite Individuals who will complete the climb four times throughout the day. Currently the record for the quickest climb stands at 2 minutes and 44 seconds.
The stair climb includes over 600 steps, 30 stories, and is 135 metres high.
Of course you don't need to be an elite athlete to take part. Compete by yourself or as part of a team, and choose to walk or climb the stairs. You can try to make a personal best, or just enjoy the walk with a few friends while you help raise some money. The different event times and categories can be found on the Stair Climb website.
Entry costs $60 for elite individuals, $30 for individual runners or walkers, and $120 per teams of four. School teams get a discount and can enter teams of 4 for $90. Participants must be at least 12 years of age to take part.
The funds raised support the Childhood Cancer Association. They support children living with cancer and their families through counselling, hospital visits, sibling support, accommodation, financial assistance, educational assistance, and bereavement support. To find out more about the work they do and what you'll be supporting, head to the Childhood Cancer Association website.
The Adelaide Stair Climb is held at Westpac House, 91 King William Street Adelaide. Check in opens at 11:30 for elite individuals and running teams, if you're in another event you should make sure you turn up at least 30 minutes before your event.
