Adelaide Shorebird and Dolphin Festival - Free Things to Do in November
The Adelaide Shorebird and Dolphin Festival is held throughout November in 2018 and takes pride of place with the Adelaide International Bird Sanctuary and Adelaide Dolphin Sanctuary as Parks of the Month.
The Adelaide International Bird Sanctuary takes in over 60km of coastline north of Adelaide, and sits at the southern end of the East Asian-Australasian Flyway. Each year birds fly from as far as Siberia and Alaska, passing through 22 countries to reach it. The southern gateway of the Sanctuary is located at the St Kilda foreshore, only a 30 minute drive from Adelaide.
The Adelaide Dolphin Sanctuary is one of the gems of metropolitan Adelaide. Located only 20 minutes from Adelaide, this marine park is home to around 30 resident bottlenose dolphins, with another 400 transient dolphins that visit at various times.
During November 2018 many free events are being held at these parks, and others in the metropolitan area to celebrate the Adelaide Shorebird and Dolphin Festival. If you see something that you want to take part in, be sure to book a place early, as many of these fun things to do will be popular.
Something that's sure to be popular with families is the free dolphin census day at Port Adelaide, where you can help scientists by counting every dolphin that you see. You can take the free St Kilda Mangrove walk anytime, but during the Adelaide Shorebird and Dolphin Festival a ranger will guide groups and point out the highlights.
