Top 5 Adelaide Places Open 24/7
Have you ever gotten an urge to go and do something in the middle of the night, for no good reason? Or maybe you've got a big night out and you're looking for a place that stays open all the time? Do you fancy a midnight mission just for the fun of it?
For all of you who just can't get enough out of regular business hours, there's the league of destinations that are open 24/7, all the time. That's right, we've compiled the top places to visit at any hour of the day or night. Often kooky, sometimes dingy,
always open for business.
Have we forgotten any? Don't forget to add your favourite places in Adelaide open 24/7.
The Original Pancake Kitchen.
Oh yes, the Pancake Kitchen. The days of light and fluffy pancakes smothered in delicious morsels of tasty might be a little far gone, but this is your premier destination on a midnight mission. Somehow over the years, the
Pancake Kitchen has lost its charm. I remember being there as a young child and being blown away by this incredible place where you could only get pancakes.
These days, the Pancake Kitchen is a little worse-for-wear, with the food quality spiralling downwards and the atmosphere comparable to a burnt-out party at 6am. It's dingy. It's tired. Well, wouldn't you be too, if you never got any sleep? Maybe it's the proximity to Hindley st, or maybe it's the fact that I'm usually there at the end of a night out with friends, I'm not sure. But either way, the novelty of being able to get pancakes at any time of the day or night is just so appealing that most of us are able to overlook the fact that it's a bit scummy and just go and eat pancakes. The service is a bit hit-and-miss, but you can always settle in to a cozy booth and tuck into something outrageously sugary. With that
so-bad-that-it's-good vibe, you just can't miss out on the experience of the Pancake Kitchen.
Cafe de Vilis
Royalty amongst night-owl patrons, Cafe de Vilis has the goods when it comes to all-night eating. It's just Vilis bakery food, but it's open
all night, which is awesome. All night! Frog cakes, sausage rolls, custard tarts, donuts. All night!
The Adelaide Casino
Ok, nobody ever said this list was full of classy things to do. The Adelaide Casino advertises itself as being a glamorous place, but, well, it's not. However, it
is entertaining and crazy and somewhere that's interesting to be but not for very long. And if you're going to be awake and out in the middle of the night, you may as well be making a little money, right? ...right?
Yeah, you're right, you're probably more likely to lose money gambling away on the machines or trying to beat the unbeatable system of poker games that seem to go on forever. You kind of get the feeling that if you stay in the casino for too long, you'll get sucked into its vortex to be a player in its corrupt world forever. But, you do get free tea, coffee and biscuits, as well as the chance to rub shoulders with some interesting characters.
24-hour gyms
Okay, I'll admit it. I'm not the first to jump at the opportunity of heading to the gym, especially at some ungodly hour like so many people seem to do. But hey, I've gotta give credit to those dedicated souls who are sweating their butts off while I drive past in comfort at 10pm on a Saturday night.
What's it like to be at the gym at midnight? Or 3am? Or sunrise? I guess you'll never know if you don't try, and if you're signed up to any one of the many 24-hour gym chains that recently boomed into the scene in Adelaide, you too could be working a sweat at any time of the day or night.
Bakery on O'Connell st
They claim to be the home of the 24-hour pie floater, and right they are. For a little bit more class in your midnight mission, you can make the step up to good old bakery food. Personally, I think this is the best way to finish off your midnight mission of madness. Warm and cosy and full of yummy things, the Bakery on O'Connell st is the perfect way to finish off a night out before heading home to bed at dawn.
Don't forget that most of these places are closed for Christmas only.. otherwise it's free-reign for the rest of the year.
