I enjoy writing about Adelaide and its many attractions. If you think Adelaide is boring,
the problem is not with Adelaide.

Have a Happy New Year

Finding fun things to do in Adelaide on New Year's Eve can be a challenge. It's not hard to find what's on in Adelaide, but the decision which event to go to can be more of a challenge.
No matter where you are, finding a taxi on New Year's Eve is always difficult. Fortunately there is more frequent public transport running, and it is often free for a limited time on the night. Many people choose to avoid the transport dilemma by hosting their own NYE party, or going to a party at a friend's house.
Elder Park Kids in Adelaide love fireworks, and for many families the huge free fireworks display in Adelaide's Elder Park is the traditional place to be. The gates in Elder Park open at 6pm with live music starting at 7pm. Feast on a wide range of international food in the park, or enjoy your alcoholic beverages in the beer garden. The City of Adelaide and Channel 9 are putting on two spectacular fireworks displays - one at 9pm and another at midnight. More info here.
Down the road in the old Adelaide Gaol the stone walls will be rocking to the rhythm of a rave. It's the 20th anniversary of Ultraworld, one of the memorable fun things to do in Adelaide. The crowd will be dancing to old school entertainment including Grooverider, Groove Terminator, Paul Glazby (UK), DJ SS, DAMC, and local DJ's. Hopefully the location won't be a guide to where you will be at the end of the night! See the poster here, and get tickets here.
NYE at the Mars Bar in Adelaide, the Club For Lesbian and Gay People
Gay and Lesbian Also in Adelaide the Mars Bar will be the place to be if you're gay, bisexual and lesbian. The dress theme is summer which usually means "scanty", so expect tank tops, skimpy shorts, and a great deal of exposed flesh. Info and tickets are here, just remember to position yourself near someone you fancy on the dance floor as the kissing hour nears.
Glenelg and Brighton For decades the Bay has been seen as Adelaide's playground, and on New Year's Eve Glenelg will be full of fun things to do. Live music, roving performers, and activities for kids will start at 6.30pm, with free fireworks displays at 9.30pm at both Glenelg and Brighton jetties. The main display at midnight will be at the Glenelg jetty only. More details here.
Also at Glenelg, the Stamford Grand is hosting a NYE Masquerade Party. If you can spare $149 you're in for a fabulous time with canapes, a set 3 course menu, a 5.5 hour beverage package, and entertainment by the Flaming Sambuccas.
Watch Fireworks at Brighton Jetty or Glenelg Jetty
I haven't found anything about fireworks at the Port, but there is an unusual New Year's Eve event: the Bollywood New Year Cruise Night offers you a cruise on the Port River including four hours of Indian food and live DJ's, and you will watch the Adelaide City fireworks at sea. Information here.
South of Adelaide - Goodwood The iconic Art Deco Capri Theatre is hosting a nostalgia night, screening all time favourite movie The Pink Panther. Celebrating the new year with some champers, this is definitely one of the fun things to do south of Adelaide.
Victor Harbor The local council haven't put up a link yet, but there's a free party at Warland Reserve in Victor Harbor on New Year's Eve. There will be live music, activities for kids, and of course a fireworks display to ring in the new Year.
You can even take a SteamRanger NYE train from Goolwa, Middleton or Port Elliot to Victor Harbor and back - no need to wait around for taxis.
Normanville is holding the only New Year's Eve pageant that I have ever heard of, with a free fireworks display around 9.45 pm. Even if you taking a break from Adelaide, you don't need to miss out!
I'm sure that I've missed a few events, so please tell us what you're up to this NYE in the comments. Whatever you do, have a fantastic night - and Happy New Year to you!
