Could you fly one this big?
Aren't Blue Whales meant to live in the sea? Adelaide International Kite Festival seem to have a different idea.

This popular free annual event is back again, held over the Easter Long Weekend at Semaphore Beach and Foreshore, on Saturday 31st March, Sunday 1st April and Monday 2nd April from 11am until 5pm each day.

The festival is put together by the Adelaide Kite Flyers Association and if you're anything like me, who can't even get a kite in the air, there is a lot of respect for these teams and individuals who can fly some seriously big and amazingly shaped kites in the sky. And not just one, but many at the same time.

Since the festivals beginning in 1997, this international and multicultural event now attracts professional kite flyers and stunt flyers from all over the world to participate in demonstrations, including aerobics of 1, 2, 3 and 4 stringed kites, kite buggies and much more.

The event program is full each day and if you've never seen this many kites in the air, of all shapes and sizes, it really is a memorising view.

The event isn't all about the professionals though. The southern end of the beach is for anyone who wants to come along, fly their own kite and have some fun, whilst trying to avoid it going for a dunk in the sea. It's a great opportunity to spend some time with the family and cheer each other on as to who can keep it in the air for the longest.

Semaphore foreshore will come alive with over 30 marketplace stalls, offering a range of different items, including kites for sale and foodie bits to buy, as well as a parenting room for convenience. The Easter Bunny also has a visit planned to surprise children with a wave and Easter goodies.

Semaphore Amusement Park will also be open to keep the little ones entertained and there is a wide range of cafes, restaurants and shops along Semaphore Road if you fancy a wander.

Check out their Facebook page for event updates, as well as interviews with display teams and families who share why they love kite flying so much. They also have a colouring-in competition running until 29th March 2018.

This event gets bigger and bigger each year, and as long as the weather plays its part, it is sure to be a great event. Entry is free, but gold coin donation is appreciated to keep the event going year after year. There is plenty of free parking available in Semaphore and along the Esplanade, just be aware of parking time limits.

It was a great day at the Kite Festival. It was jam packed with people and cars, bring your patience for parking.
