The park of the month this November 2019 is Adelaide International Bird Sanctuary and Adelaide Dolphin Sanctuary. There will be much to see and do throughout the month whether you're interested in birds, dolphins, kayaking, snorkelling or walking.
The St Kilda Mangrove Trail is fascinating, and you have the opportunity to join two easy 1km ranger-guided walks on Wednesdays the 6th and 20th at 10am. You will learn about the importance of mangrove forests. Also, on Wednesday the 13th, there will be another easy 4km ranger-guided walk from Thompson Beach to Third Creek at sunset. On this walk, you will hear how the samphire-covered tidal mudflats are used by migratory birds. You will have time for bird spotting along the way too.
On Saturday the 16th, come and be part of the dolphin population census which provides an understanding of dolphin health in the Adelaide Dolphin Sanctuary. This event is family-friendly and there are 21 observation sites to choose from.
The next day, on Sunday the 17th, you can learn more about migratory shorebirds at the BirdLife Australia informative workshop. During the workshop, you get to view the birds through telescopes on Thompson Beach.
For those interested in kayaking, you will be able to join the kayak adventures on Thursday the 21st and Saturday the 23rd. Also on Saturday the 23rd, there will be opportunities to snorkel at the Port Gawler River mangrove forest.
Registrations are essential for all events, and can be made via their website. Be quick once you've decided as places do tend to get filled up quickly.
