This year's
Adelaide Fringe Festival will open on North Terrace in the city, beginning with a massive Street Party,
Sunset Ceremony , Markets, and the switching on of the highly anticipated light projection show - the
Parade of Light .
In a break from the traditional street parade of years past, this year sees an exciting change. There will be no parade through the city, instead; the night will be full of free events for the whole family and there'll be room for everyone to roam around and to enjoy.
Friday night, the 16th of February will kick off with:
Opening Night Street Party - free event
Starting at 5 pm through to 10 pm
North Terrace will come alive with roaming street performers, the Night Markets and the Frusic (Music SA Stage)
Tindo Utpurndee (Sunset Ceremony - free event)
At 8 pm on the front lawns of the South Australian Museum.
Everyone is invited to attend the official opening of the 2018 Adelaide Fringe Festival - the
Tindo Utpurndee Sunset Ceremony . This event is full of ancient stories, told with a combination of modern and traditional dance by
Yellaka in recognition and respect of our traditional landowners.
Switching-On Ceremony - free event
8.30 pm. Immediately following the Sunset Ceremony will be the official switching on of the
Parade of Light. The Parade of Light is a collection of architectural light projections on our historic North Terrace buildings.
The
2018 Adelaide Fringe Festival Opening Night will be very different, it will be huge and, the best part of all - it will be a massive amount of free fun!
