Adelaide Central Market is a must-visit for any interstate or international travelers. This indoor market has been conveniently located in the city centre since 1869. It is one of the oldest and original markets in Adelaide.

Unlike your average weekend farmer/organic markets, Adelaide Central Market is filled with local produce, artisan baked goods and European novelty shops. This place has everything you need all rolled into one - whether it be your weekly grocery run or for that special dinner.

If you're new to Adelaide and have plenty of money to spend, you can take a 2 hour Adelaide Central Market Tour for $60, where a guide will take you through the market stalls and you can sample various food around the market.

If you are touring on a budget, take my laissez-faire approach, let chances surprise you and spend that $60 tour fee on fresh produce, exotic delights, gourmet foods gourmet foodies or anything you fancy.

It is really fun, just leisurely wondering and browsing through the aisles. You will be delighted to see a range of smoked smallgoods hanging on top the butcher stalls. This Market just emits a happy vibe even if you are not a food-lover. Here are my highlighted picks:

How can one miss The Providore stall with its marvelous chocolate fountain? This stall is too wicked for words. Decadent desserts, cakes and sweets will grab your undivided attention and kids will not leave until they get their lamingtons and chocolate crackles. What am I saying? I wouldn't move either until I got mine too!

The rustic homemade rocky road slabs just look so tempting; the pink heart-shaped 'lovington' will send hearts soaring and you should not proceed further into the market without first ordering a cup of coffee and a generous pieces of cake here. Might I mention, this is the FIRST stall....

There is something about the House of Organic stall, all veggies and fruits just look way too beautiful, healthy and they look like they ready to burst with nutritious goodness.

The Mushroom Man is another must-stop if you are vegetarian or a mushroom lover.

These fresh mushrooms look large and plump and there are many different exotic varieties on offer. If the season is right, you can even get some lovely harvest of wild mushrooms.

They also sell truffle salt which is like a magic sprinkle that uplifts flavours in any dish.

I think Dough is a diet-breaker or a heart-healer with their amazing pastries and baked goods. The bakery/patisserie serves amazing-looking sourdough and various artisan rolls. There are pretzels, cheese sticks and even a bagel rack! They bake their bread on site so you know you are getting a super fresh loaf.

The fruit tarts and patisseries are simply exquisite. The pastry shell is crisp and buttery, and the filling is lightly spiced to balance out the sweetness of the fruits. Even though, the price is slightly on the high-side, the serving size is decent but the quality is excellent beyond belief.

The Smelly Cheese is located just next to Dough and you know Adelaidians love their cheese judging from their extensive local and international cheese selections.

The staff are knowledgeable, friendly and happy for you to try some cheese samples. I highly recommend the red wine beetroot jelly pate.

The Old Lolly Shop is a delightful confectionery store that the dentists would frown upon. It is filled with traditional Australian sweets as well as exotic European import candies. Think of this charming old fashion store as the kids' Candy Crush heaven.

More artisan bakeries along the back. Breads have never looked this good!

I am told most shops at the market have been around for ages and it is one of SA's proudest establishments.

Head chefs from Adelaide's top restaurants can be seen here first thing in the morning getting their supplies. This just demonstrates the quality of the produce here.

This is such a lively market, all vendors are so friendly, with so many wonderful SA produces and deli goods all under one roof, I want to stay!
