I love to travel and some time ago discovered I also love to write, combine this with my husband's photography and we get to share it all with you. Please follow us on Facebook.
Bugs! For most people, that is enough to make your skin crawl but for some, especially kids, bugs are a massive fascination. They come in all shapes and sizes and are incredibly unique.
For those who love bugs or are simply are fascinated by them, the Adelaide Bug Festival is coming to Adelaide for the very first time in 2021.
From Thursday 4 February to Sunday 7 February 2021, the festival will feature the behaviours and extreme characteristics of more than 20 giant, moving, hissing, clicking and roaring creatures from different parts of the planet. Imagine a 6 metre tarantula, or a 6 metre scorpion from head to tail!

A blend of technology, science, artistry and imagination is used to capture the most unusual aspects of the insect world. Animatronic creatures such as dung beetles are in exaggerated sizes, highlighting what makes them different and enabling visitors to examine them up close. Learn about their importance to our ecosystem, their extreme behaviours and the physical characteristics that allows them to thrive and survive.
Visitors can experience a bug's eye view, explore critter calls and have fun on the amusement rides. A variety of preserved and live insects and reptiles will be available for visitors to view up close and educators will give short insect talks and be available to answer questions.
Held indoors and outdoors at the Adelaide Showgrounds, Goodwood Road, Wayville from 8 am to 6 pm each day, the Adelaide Bug Festival is a unique educational exhibition with tickets only available at the website. Cost is children (2 to 13 years) $15, adults $25, seniors $18, family of four (2 adults and 2 children) $70, group or family (eight children or adults) $150.
Activities included in the entry fee are a walk-through display of animatronic and static bug models, viewing bugs under a magnifying glass, jumping castle, bug colouring and reptile display.
Amusement ride activities are an additional cost with various prices from $5 per ride. Please see the website for further information. This is separate to the cost of admission and an admission ticket must also be purchased.
