I bet you haven't considered Beer Pong as your next sport to try, but Adelaide's Beer Pong community is thriving. What started out as a party drinking game is becoming a popular scene through Adelaide's nightlife.

The rules of Beer Pong are pretty simple. There are two players, each with the same amount of cups lined up in a triangle shape. The player must try and throw or bounce a ping pong ball into their opponents cup, if they get one in their opponent must drink the content of the cup. Rules do vary, and if you're wanting an in depth set of rules head to the website . Sometimes all of the cups contain beer, and sometimes some will contain water. The number of cups can also vary. Regardless of the rules this still remains one of the 'few' sports where you get drunk while playing.

The current Beer Pong scene claims to have been formed at Adelaide University, an attempt to formalise the many groups that have formed at the university. They run events at the university, but are also branching out to other venues. The aim is for the competition to reach far beyond what it is now. During the university term you can attend or participate in a Beer Pong game every Thursday at 6:00pm in the Adelaide University Unibar.

Don't be fooled into thinking that Beer Pong is just a local game played in pubs and clubs, there is currently a tournament happening where the winning team could end up at the World Series of Beer Pong in Las Vegas. The competitions take place in the far more striking location of Heaven Night Club, where rows of Beer Pong tables are set up through the old church.

You can get involved, or just go along as a spectator. To keep up to date with what is happening, make sure you tune into the website or follow them on Facebook . That way you'll know when the next event is. If you want any more information then send an email to [email protected]. If you're not a fan of beer this may not be the sport for you, but you'll still enjoy watching.
