Food and words.

Last Summer Adelaide Ballzup took to the River Torrens for the first time, as part of the newly launched Splash Adelaide Campaign. Thankfully their time on the river didn't stay temporary for long, and their aqua balls have become a regular sight.

The aqua balls are basically a giant inflatable ball that allows you to have fun on the water without getting wet. You step inside the deflated ball, and it's inflated around you; finally it's sealed up so no water gets in, and away you go.

Before you start worrying about being zipped up in a completely sealed plastic ball, they're perfectly safe. You could easily spend a lot more than 5 minutes inside one.

There's a lot of flipping and flopping, rolling and sliding, and a lot of falling over. Once you're inside and on the water, the balls seem to have a life of their own, and standing upright is suddenly a huge challenge. If you master the balls you can manage to move them around, but even if you're biggest achievement is an impressive fall you'll still have lots of fun.

Anyone from 3 to 103 can have a go, as their sign proclaims, which is great when you've got a handful of kids of all different ages. There's no lining up against the height chart, and younger kids won't have to miss out till their next birthday. The only requirement is that you're under 100kg.

Things have changed a bit since the very beginning, including the introduction of some colourful new balls. Adelaide Ballzup don't just pop up on the River Torrens, they have an portable pool that means they can set themselves up at any event, as long as there's enough room. There are also a new line of zorb balls arriving soon, which will be great when they set up at the beach.

To have a go in one of the aqua balls you pay $10 for 5 minutes, and usually about 5 balls can go at a time. If they're down on the River Torrens they fence off an area to use, so you don't have to worry about rolling away.

To find out when and where you can find Adelaide Ballzup follow their Facebook page and keep an eye out for their daily updates. Most of the time they'll be set up in Elder Park along the Torrens. Unfortunately things like the weather and algae can keep them away.

So if you're looking for an exciting way to keep the kids entertained, especially through the school holidays, try out Adelaide Ballzup.
