Budget activities with toddlers Gold Coast
Gold Coast is full of any activity under the sun from exhilarating thrill rides, artificial snow, entertaining theme parks and themed cabaret shows. However, all these awesome entertainment comes at a price which if you have a toddler – they may not necessarily appreciate.

Theme parks are quite costly especially if your little ones cannot even sit on majority of the rides due to height and weight restrictions. If you would like to save the expensive activities for when your kids are a bit older and can appreciate them more, please see below for activities you can do with a toddler which will cost you less than $20 each (or even free)

1) Rockpools at Broadwater Parklands

The Broadwater Parklands is located on the Broadwater side of Marine Parade, Southport (Opposite Australia Fair). A free waterpark where your toddler can splash around with a giant water play area. The parklands also have a playground which includes swings, slides and a pedal-powered monorail. A giant undercover bouncy pillow doubles up as a trampoline.

2) Mt Tamborine Glow Worm Caves

Mt Tamborine Glow Worm Caves allow you and your kids to see glow worms glow during the daytime. Glow worms are actually fly larvae which glow in dark areas to attract and catch small insects near where glow worms reside. You can learn more about their life cycle and behaviour on the tour.

This activity costs money but you won't be looking at spending $100 per person for a glow worm tour. Children under 4 are free of charge, children aged 4 to 12 cost $6 and adults are $14 per person for a 30-minute tour which runs every half hour at a maximum capacity of 20 people per tour. They are open 10am-4pm 7 days a week and they have twilight tours every Friday and Saturday from 4pm-6.30pm. Closed Good Friday and Christmas Day. They are located at Cedar Creek Estate Cnr Long and Hartley Road 104-144 Hartley Road North Tamborine. Visit them at glowwormcavetamborinemountain.com.au

3) Currumbin Rock Pools
A free local swimming spot with cascading waterfalls and trickling streams a 15 minute drive from Currumbin beach. There is a lot of natural shade and is a great way for the family to enjoy keeping cool on a hot sweltering day. There are communal BBQs and public bathrooms available as well as sheltered picnic tables. If you don't feel like bringing your own food, there is a café available.

4) Honeyworld at Currumbin
Located adjacent to Currumbin Sanctuary, Honeyworld allows visitors to learn from their professional beekeepers on how honey goes from hive to jar. Your toddler will be awed at the displays and they can also sample their honey varieties.

You can contact them on 07 5598 4548 at Tomewin Street Currumbin or on their website on superbee.com.au

5) Carrara Markets
From Carrara Markets Facebook

Open every Saturday and Sunday from 7am to 3pm, Carrara Markets has over 400 food, variety stalls and attractions. It is only a 12-minute drive from Surfers Paradise. Your kids will love it here while mum and dad shops as there are buskers, pony rides, baby animal farm, face painters and bungy trampolines available.

If your kids love reptiles, there is Luke's Reptile Kingdom with live interactive shows and gives them the opportunity to get up close and personal with snakes, lizards and frogs. The show runs 3 times an hour from 8am to 3pm on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets cost $15 for adults and $10 for children.
