The Chinese Year of the Horse is upon us (Lunar Chinese New Year falls on Friday 31 January) and as usual, it will be celebrated with a bang. The fifteen-day long celebration is kicked off with a reunion dinner with family and friends on the eve of Chinese New Year. If you are rearing to get into the spirit of it, here is the round up of the top few activities.
#1 : Reunion dinner with family and friends
The reunion dinner on Chinese New Year's eve can be said to be the most important meal of the year to every Chinese. That is why this period boosts the largest annual human migration, as everyone from different corners for the world returns home to share this pivotal meal with their families. Most will spend lavishly on this meal and fill the table with auspicious dishes that signifies a prosperous year ahead. Here are a list of places you can consider for this all-important meal with your family and friends:

#2 : Bake Chinese New Year goodies
It is customary to visit relatives and friends during the first 15 days of Chinese New Year, and a good host would not waste this opportunity to showcase their hosting skills as well as their baking skills. There are many different delicate Chinese New Year goodies that are traditionally served during this season, such as peanut cookies, love letters, prawn rolls. Read

#4 : Watch traditional lion and dragon dance
As you may already know, Chinese New Year is a vibrant and flashy celebration and one of the much-anticipated events is the traditional lion and dragon dance. This art that combines history and kung fu moves is performed to chase away ghosts and evil spirits. Clashing cymbals and drums usually accompany this energetic display and it is a natural accompaniment with the boisterous firecrackers.

#5 : Experience firecrackers**
Though it is part of many traditional celebrations, the use of firecrackers is unfortunately banned in many countries as it had caused quite a few injuries. Luckily, the use of firecrackers is permitted by licensed pyro-technician in Victoria, so we won't miss out on this lively scene during the celebration. Here's a list of where you can watch both lion/dragon dance and firecrackers display:
