With school holidays fast approaching, parents can expect frequent choruses of, "There's nothing to do!" from bored school children. Fortunately for frazzled parents, the Brisbane City Council has introduced a fantastic new program guaranteed to combat the school holiday blues.
Chill Out is a program aimed at children aged ten to seventeen that provides free or low cost recreational pursuits for children of Brisbane residents and rate payers. This is a project instituted by the Active and Healthy Lifestyle initiative and designed by Council to encourage school aged children to remain active and healthy, while meeting and bonding with their peers at the same time. Of course, your children don't have to know that; they'll be too busy having fun!
Activities run the gauntlet from fun and frivolous, to athletic, to educational. Children can enjoy a game of laser skirmish or make some clay sculptures; learn how to play the guitar or partake in martial arts training; gain valuable skills with a computer workshop; or get fit playing basketball with NBL All Star Andrew Moore. Your child may even discover a lifelong passion!
Of course, this is just a very small sample of the myriad and diverse activities on offer. For a complete list of What's On, visit the
Brisbane City Council, where you'll find there's something to suit every gender, age and taste. The age range is flexible, so don't panic if you've got a child who's almost ten or just over seventeen. And activities take place all over Brisbane, making it that little bit easier for parents taxi drivers!
With the increasing popularity of Chill Out events, bookings are required for most activities. So jump online and sign your child up today – he or she will be satisfied more quickly than you can say, "I'm bored!" And who knows, they might just learn something!
