These January school holidays, Active OT For Kids is hosting a series of child development groups focused on school readiness, social skills, muscle strength and coordination, handwriting and gymnastics.

The groups will be facilitated by paediatric occupational therapists, who specialise in sensory integration and working with children with complex needs.

The groups are held in a fun, interactive and encouraging environment and are designed to improve foundational skill development to support children's accuracy, participation and confidence.

The upcoming holiday program includes:

  • Social Skill Group

    12th January 2015 -14th January 2015 and 21st 23rd January 2015

This group aims to develop the children's social skills through a holistic play based approach, which encourages participation and supports generalisation of skills into their daily environment. The group is available for children age 4-6years and 7-13years. The course is open to all children who are having difficulty with socially interacting in their home and school environments.

  • School Readiness Group

    19th January 2015 21st January 2015

This group aims to develop each individual child's foundational skills important for entry into school in 2015. Focus will be placed on developing each child's fine motor, gross motor, sensory, cognitive, play / social, and transitional skills, as well as following routine.

  • Strength and Co-ordination group

    5th January 7th January 2015

This is a fantastic opportunity for children to strengthen muscle groups through participating in a range of play-based activities. The group aims to develop the children's muscle strength utilising cutting edge suspended equipment, lofts and slides, and resistant equipment. The group is available for children aged 5 to 13 years. The program is open to all children who have low muscle tone and/or strength and are having difficulty with participating in daily motor activities as a result.

  • Handwriting Group

    19th January 2015 21st January 2015

This group will focus on body awareness, coordination, postural control and muscle tone to assist in the development of pencil grip, letter formation and handwriting fluency. Groups will be offered to Year K-2 and Year 3-6.

A one day Intensive Program is also being offered for children with sensory processing disorders, low muscle tone, fine and gross motor delays as well as children preparing for school.
