Ride, Skate, Jump and Climb
It's school holiday time and being winter it is so easy just to hibernate and stay indoors. It is also the perfect time to get outside, get moving and have some fun. No excuses….. I have listed some great activities to keep the kids active over holidays!

Head to Gold Coast Iceland and strap on a pair of skates. Great prices and great in the fact that you only pay if you are skating. Remember to bring warm clothes and thick socks, and for the adults not skating - grab a Zarraffas takeaway coffee just down the road.
Children under 12 $15, Teens $17, Adults $20.
Sessions range from 1.5 hours to 2.5 hours starting at 10.30 am. Call 5539 9899, 15 Strathaird Road, Bundall

Gold Coast Compound at Coomera is a skateboarders and scooters paradise. 3 hours of jumping off ramps into foam pits is just heaven for some.
18 for 3 hours Call 5573 3001 for session times. 43-53 Days Rd, Upper Coomera

Flipout is a massive trampolining playground at Tweed Heads. Full of trampolines everywhere, guaranteed to get the heart racing. Heaps of jumping somersaults to be had at Flipout!
10 for half hour, $14 for an hour.
Call: 1300 354 768; Units 16-19/23 Enterprise Ave, Tweed Heads South

Ashmore BMX track is an awesome track for budding BMX riders. Lots of dirt and plenty of hills to fly over. Go to 99 Currumburra Road, Ashmore.

Reach new heights and try rock climbing at the Paramount Adventure Centre.
From $16.00 plus $5 harness hire for 3 hours, it is exhilarating and challenging for kids and parents alike with over 850 sq metres of wall space to climb.
Ph: 5593 6919; 38 Hutchinson St, Burleigh Heads

Standup Paddle Boarding or in Hawaiian language "Hoe he'e nalu". It may be a bit cooler now but now is a good time to give it a go. Not only is it great fun but awesome fitness.
Roar Industries have the largest fleet of Hire Stand Up Paddle Boards available for you. Plus 1 Hour SUP Hire on weekdays is just $5!
Call 5525 7003; 8 Thrower Drive, Currumbin, Gold Coast.

(Note: The Currumbin Estuary provides a great sheltered spot practice SUP. Also check out the new GCCC School Holiday program for lessons.)

Skate and BMX parks. There are loads of parks across the Gold Coast to keep the skate and BMX two and four-wheeled warriors amused. And I love this bit, - they don't cost a penny! Pack drinks and lunch and you are right to go whether they are BMX, Scooter or Skateboard mad… Helmets and pads never go a amiss.

Varsity Lakes skate / BMX park (1 Cassia Drive, Varsity Lakes)
Nerang skate / BMX park (Arthur Earle Park - Nerang Connection Road, Nerang)

Miami skate / BMX park (Pizzey Park - 80 Pacific Avenue, Miami)
Pacific Pines Skate Park (Brockman Reserve and Pitcairn Way at Pacific Pines)
Runaway Bay Skate Park (Oxley Drive, Runaway Bay)

The Gold Coast City Council always have a great "Active & Healthy Holiday Program" available from 28th June. A fantastic program for school holidays. There is something here for everyone to try from arts and crafts to team sports. So many activities, so little time…. and at very little cost or in most cases, FREE!

So come on, make the most of the Winter sunshine and let's get moving!
