Many have probably not heard of the , but it is one thing that you should consider this Christmas.

Act for Peace is an organisation collaborating with project partners both in Australia and around the world to assist communities affected by poverty in more than 140 countries, including those in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, across the Pacific and in the Americas. They literally 'act for peace' on behalf of those in countries where war, conflict and poverty has ravaged the country. The way they do this is by protecting refugees, preventing conflict, reducing poverty, and ultimately empowering communities.

Act for Peace started 'the Christmas Bowl' back in 1949, when a man named Frank Byatt placed an empty bowl on the dining table at Christmas and asked guests to put in the bowl the cost of the meal, so that it could be given to people displaced from their homes during World War 2. They have since raised more than $100 million dollars, thanks to generous and caring supporters. Of course, the also assists Aborigines and refugees here in Australia, and this Christmas, you can also lend a helping hand. There are several ways you can go about doing this.

One of the most obvious ways is to donate to the 2011 Appeal by going online or calling 1800 025 101. There are also several gifts that you can buy for someone in need overseas this Christmas, including food, emergency kits and more. Please see the website for more details.

also hosts a range of events around this time of year, one of which will be on December 11th, a concert open to all entitled – The Most Wonderful Time of the Year: A Christmas Celebration (made by the production team behind "Singing in the Rain: A Concert for Flood Aid). There will be something for everyone at this concert, including jazz, traditional carols and more, with all proceeds going to the 2011 Appeal. Tickets are just $15 per person, with discounts available for both pensioners and families; and they are available at the door. You can even purchase some special goodies for yourself and others at the concert.

So grab your family and friends and head to The Most Wonderful Time of the Year: A Christmas Celebration this December for a great night out. If for some reason you cannot make it to the concert, you can still make a difference by donating to the 2011 appeal online or buying a Christmas gift for someone in need.
