There are organised activities for families and friends to enjoy in this beautiful Spring weather.
Between 10am and 4pm, the National Archives of Australia will be holding a free Family Day with activities for the kids. You don't need to book, just turn up and enjoy origami boat making, games and a discovery trail to explore. Learn more about what happens at the National Archives and listen to stories about Australia's history and their collections on display. See here for more information.

Floriade will be a popular option for this public holiday with cooking demonstrations, displays, markets and of course, the flower beds planted in intricate designs.
Activities for the kids include Matilda's Farmyard, face painting, cubby houses to play in, sporting activities and the Circus Playground will open for the first time on this public holiday. See here for more info.

There is also the Ferris Wheel, bouncy castle, slide, teacups and more at sideshow alley.
Our family have enjoyed Floriade a few times already this year and the Ferris Wheel is the ideal location to see the floral designs (and the kids love every minute). It does get very high, so not recommended for the faint hearted...especially if windy!

Parliament House are running their Spring Glory Courtyard Tour, where you can walk with the gardeners and learn more about these lovingly cared for gardens. See here for info and ticketing.
Tulip Tops Festival is held in Sutton, just over the border into NSW. With 10 acres of gardens to explore and a free sausage sizzle at lunchtime, it is another popular event to enjoy Spring in Canberra. See here for info and ticketing.
The National Film and Sound Archives are showing $5 movies. There will be "Skippy and the Intruders" at 10am and "Storm Boy" and midday. Book online here.
Poachers Pantry Café in the winery district will be open for lunch and wine tastings on Family and Community Day. The kids can also have a run around the property before settling down to lunch with the family. See here for more info.
If you are after an unusual weekend away, why not sign up to join the West African Drum & Dance Retreat at Camp Cottermouth, 15 minutes outside the city. For 3 days adults can learn to drum and dance whilst also enjoying yoga and meditation. See here for more info.

ACT Family and Community Day is a wonderful opportunity to get together with family and friends and enjoy quality time in this interesting city. Why not pack the esky and head down to the lake for a BBQ, enjoy the local park, go for a bike ride together or relax at home having some family time.
The other states of Australia don't get this public holiday, so Canberra will be the envy of the rest of Australia on September 28th. Enjoy!
