With many of its 2020 performances suspended due to Covid-19,
The Australian Chamber Orchestra has decided to put together a digital season for everyone to enjoy while stuck at home right now. The content will be a mix of live events, fresh videos and archival footage.
A schedule of what's to come will be released each week, on Monday. The following day, on Tuesday, that schedule will kick off with some form of backstage content, whether that be an interview, a musician profile or a playlist. Live performances from the homes of musicians will then take place on Friday.
Throughout the week, there might also be a Facebook watch party, family content or archival footage posted; these will all be featured twice a month. If none of the scheduled times suits you, you can find the contents of past weekly HomeCasts
here . If there's something, in particular, you want to see, the ACO is even accepting requests on the first Sunday of every month, via Instagram and Facebook.
Like other arts organisations, the ACO is struggling financially right now without its usual income from ticket sales, so it's unclear how long HomeCasts will last. However musicians have been provided with recording equipment, everyone is learning how to edit and the AOC aims to make the highest quality, most engaging content it can. It's determined to give supporters something to enjoy and hopes those same supporters decide not to cancel their subscriptions just yet.
If you're interested in checking out other art organisations that have put together digital programs, I recommend
The Australian Ballet , which is putting up a full-length archival production every fortnight. The
Sydney Opera House is also posting archival conversations and events from Wednesday to Sunday each week.
