As night falls, it's time to roll out the sleeping bags for an unforgettable evening as you sleep beneath the stars under our glass-ceiling. Swallows and Amazons at ACMI Cinemas (PG) When: Thu 21 Dec – Tue 16 Jan
Catch Swallows And Amazons on the Big Screen at ACMI Cinemas screening at various times from 21 December to 16 January.
This 2016 feature film is based on Arthur Ransome's classic novel of the same name, which follows four children dreaming of escape from the tedium of a summer holiday in the Lake District with their mother.
The four adventurers are given permission to camp on their own on a remote island in the middle of a vast lake. However, their excitement leads to concern as they soon discover they are not alone and a desperate battle for ownership of the island ensues.
The children must learn skills of survival, responsibility, and the all-important value of friendship. Exclusive to ACMI Cinemas.
Workshop: Make a Movie (3 days)
When: 3-5 Jan, 8-10 Jan, 22-24 Jan
Creative kids 9 - 14yrs learn the technical aspects of filmmaking in this three day 'Make a Movie' workshop. Working in small groups, kids are grouped together to learn the basics of writing, directing, acting in and editing a short film, all under the guidance of experienced staff.
All participants pitch their ideas, write a script, produce a storyboard, act, direct, and get to operate a camera! Filming takes place on location at ACMI and around Federation Square. Participants then cut the film together in our post-production studio, adding special effects and a soundtrack. On the last day of the workshop, they attend a red carpet film premiere with two invited guests.
But it doesn't stop there. In addition to the above, children are also invited to join full day or half day workshops and even free activities over the school holidays. There's Minecraft classes, family robotics, claymation & coding workshops plus lots more movies to enjoy over the summer break.
