Sleepovers, movie making and adventures this Summer at ACMI
The Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) has announced an exciting summer program for families starting this December.

Australia's national museum of film, TV, video games, digital culture and art, located right in the heart of Melbourne's CBD in Federation Square, offers interactive and exciting activities for families year- round and in each school holiday, there's more to choose from.

Before school is out this summer, book into one or more of the following events and mark in your calendars so you don't miss out:

Family Sleepover: A Grand Night In

This 2016 feature film is based on Arthur Ransome's classic novel of the same name, which follows four children dreaming of escape from the tedium of a summer holiday in the Lake District with their mother.

The four adventurers are given permission to camp on their own on a remote island in the middle of a vast lake. However, their excitement leads to concern as they soon discover they are not alone and a desperate battle for ownership of the island ensues.

The children must learn skills of survival, responsibility, and the all-important value of friendship. Exclusive to ACMI Cinemas.

Workshop: Make a Movie (3 days)
When: 3-5 Jan, 8-10 Jan, 22-24 Jan

Creative kids 9 - 14yrs learn the technical aspects of filmmaking in this three day 'Make a Movie' workshop. Working in small groups, kids are grouped together to learn the basics of writing, directing, acting in and editing a short film, all under the guidance of experienced staff.

All participants pitch their ideas, write a script, produce a storyboard, act, direct, and get to operate a camera! Filming takes place on location at ACMI and around Federation Square. Participants then cut the film together in our post-production studio, adding special effects and a soundtrack. On the last day of the workshop, they attend a red carpet film premiere with two invited guests.

But it doesn't stop there. In addition to the above, children are also invited to join full day or half day workshops and even free activities over the school holidays. There's Minecraft classes, family robotics, claymation & coding workshops plus lots more movies to enjoy over the summer break.
