The Kids' Flicks cinema program is also a winner for family favourite movie screenings, with ticket prices starting from just $5. ACMI's cinema also hosts The Little Big Shots a film festival for kids every winter, which every Melbourne family should add to their family's calendar.
With the introduction of ACMI Family Sundays, locals and visitors are invited to try out a range of interactive activities that are unique to the centre.
Each month, Family Sundays will adopt a theme to inspire visitor participation. Kicking off on 2 April, 2017, the theme for the first in the series of ACMI Family Sundays will be YouTube.
Visitors are invited to discover how everyday people are taking over the internet with online video. ACMI's expert team will be on hand to help families make their very own videos inspired by special guests, YouTube megastars Grace Mulgrew (Grace's World) and Debbie Doo (Debbie Doo's Kids TV) who will drop in on the day to reveal the tips and tricks for creating entertaining online content.
ACMI offers a world-class green screen studio, used for movie making workshops throughout the year. On the 2 April, 2017, the green screen studio will be used to celebrate Aussie Rules. Locals and visitors are invited to partake in their own Mark of The Year video or blooper reel, inspired by the AFL Kids YouTube Channel created by ACMI X co-workers Valleyarm Digital. Stars of the AFL Womens' League will drop in throughout the day to cameo in family creations.
Visitors are invited to stop by the ACMI Cafe for a bite to eat and a hot or cold drink, and the day must not end before a browse in the ACMI shop, filled with interesting gifts and souvenirs to take home.
ACMI Family Sundays are set to be an enjoyable regular addition to the interactive and educational centre that is unique to Melbourne. Because each month offers a different theme, there is something new to embrace on the first Sunday of the month, throughout the year at the ACMI.
Forthcoming Family Sundays themes include: Star Wars (Sun 7 May) to coincide with May 4th (International Star Wars Day), Gameplay (Sun 4 Jun), to coincide with the opening weekend of the ACMI's exclusive exhibition Wallace & Gromit and friends: The magic of Aardman, Aardman and Animation (Sun 2 Jul), Winter Fantasy and Fables (Sun 6 Aug) and Young Storytellers (Sun 3 Sep). More themes to be announced soon.
