At 11am on October 22, former US Vice President
Al Gore and the Climate Reality Project will stop everything to take a close look at the impact of climate change. For 24 hours, they'll screen a global broadcast examining how carbon pollution is affecting daily life on all six continents.
Last year, the
24 Hours of Reality Project attracted more than 16 million viewers, and the team is hoping to beat that record this week. The broadcast will investigate local issues, from extreme weather to food security to waterborne disease, featuring interviews with scientists, artists, celebrities, economists and other experts.
To mark the occasion, the Australian Conservation Foundation will host a ninety-minute Sydney screening on Wednesday October 23 at 9.30am at the Mechanics' School of Arts (280 Pitt Street). The
24 Hours of Reality Australian segment will include interviews with those affected by the Bundaberg floods and Sydney fires, as well as pre-recorded pieces from Will Steffen. Plus, there'll be a live panel discussion with the
ACF's Don Henry ; ANU Professor of Environment, Climate and Health Equity, Anthony McMichael; and
Healthcare Without Harm 's Gary Cohen.
Attendance is free and morning tea will be provided. However,
online registration is essential, as numbers are strictly limited to 100.
