Have you ever noticed the Poinciana trees lining Racecourse Road? They are among the most beautiful flowering trees in the world. And they are even more glorious during the month of October when they are embellished in pink ribbons for charity. From the River to the Racetrack on Racecourse Road, all 72 of the trees will be adorned and adored.

Pink'd UP on Racecourse Road is celebrating 10 years of supporting Breast Cancer Awareness. The awareness campaign started with a few balloons tied to the trees in October 2008 - but the balloons didn't last for a month. So in 2009, the idea was to have a constant visual display for the entire month. Pink florist ribbon was added to the project for longevity. The evolution of the tree decorations over the past 9 years has been a creative story in itself: from recycled products, to individual artistic twists by business owners, locals and members of the community.

The 2015 design was inspired by a local stylist who created a beautiful array of different pink ribbons tied to the trees. A sense of individuality, femininity and freedom evolved from the free-flowing ribbons, proving this design to be the most popular to date. Four metres of hot pink organza will be added to the ribbons this year.

"Adopt-A-Tree" project was created to help raise funding for the cost of the decorations and to involve the local business owners, the community groups and residents in the event. The main aim was to market the "Awareness Campaign" to the greater community of Brisbane with 10% donated to Mater Chicks in Pink. All trees will have a plaque with the adopter's details .

"The Tree of Remembrance" project has been established in the grounds of St Augustine's Anglican Church. Thinking of someone you love, this is your opportunity to commemorate loved ones by writing a heartfelt message and leaving your thoughts on a tree. Hearts, pens and pins are all supplied.
