New to Canberra, I love exploring this city and the secrets that it holds with my family.

A scenic cafe, a short drive from Port Macquarie
Abundance Lifestyle and Garden is a plant nursery and scenic cafe, located on the road to Rawdon Island between Port Macquarie and Wauchope. This unassuming property is found after driving down a winding rural road, with farmland and large homes dotted along its length. After a few minutes of driving off the main road, the entrance to the property comes into view and to be honest, our family were a little surprised to find so many cars at this remote location. Walking in however, it was easy to see that this beautifully-presented plant nursery, with little corners of quaint garden ornaments and wide varieties of sub-tropical plants, was a place that needed time to explore. If you continue walking through the nursery, it is also the view of the extensive body of water, dotted with enough water lillies to compare to a Monet painting, that is the real scenic surprise of this unique plant nursery. Overlooking the lake, there is a waterside cafe with outdoor tables that take in the scene, complete with lilly-stepping water birds and ducks gliding through the centre.
Our family, silenced by the view, realised we had stumbled onto a NSW mid-north coast oasis.
Picturesque views at Abundance Lifestyle and Garden
The cafe itself is fairly large, with a dozen tables inside and the same number outside, with all the tables positioned to take in the expansive water view. The name "Abundance" suits the property as the lake is abundant with water birds, ducks and turtles, all enjoying this quiet and secluded location. If you have kids, ensure you get an outside table by the water so they can spot turtles coming up to the surface to breathe and be mystified by the "moving" lilypads with fish and turtles swimming underneath. With large lizards scurrying into the bushland and the honks of water birds filling the air, it is a nature-lovers dream to be sitting in this simply stunning location.
Take a seat and just watch - the more you look, the more you see
On our occasion we arrived for morning tea and there was a selection of delicious cakes, banana breads, cheesecakes and slices to choose from, to go with our coffees and kid sized milkshakes. We picked the Toasted Banana Bread, which came with honey and mascapone, as well as a huge slice of hummingbird cake which came with cream. The exceptionally delicious baked treats even managed to eclipse the view. See the Breakfast Menu and Lunch Menu for more details.
If you are in the market for new plants in your garden they sell a wide range for this sub-tropical climate, with "grow your own" bananas and avocado trees and a wide range of fruit trees and roses. There is a good range of succulents for reasonable prices and rows of planting options for your home. If you are visiting with kids, the Venus Flytraps are fun for the kids to marvel at, with their fine "teeth" and variety of different types.
Abundance Lifestyle and Garden is a scenic venue which all ages can enjoy. As soon as you walk in, relaxation takes over as wind chimes tinkle in the breeze and the sounds of water birds can be heard honking in the distance. It is easy to see how this leafy property is often the setting for weddings and celebrations, with its sense of 'exclusiveness" about this tucked away secret out of town.
Despite its popularity, there is a hush and quietness about the property, as visitors respectfully enjoy the abundance of beauty and nature all around them.
