The is back; the annual event - in its fifth year - which takes place in the UAE capital has seen the arrival of ground-breaking films which have taken the industry by storm. Cinema becomes grand again, with shorts and narratives which have been cleverly thought-out by film makers who are making their final debut for their biggest audience.



Unlike the famous Cannes film festival, you can watch the films at a cinema near you, and I'm planning on visiting AMC cinema to see some of the independently-produced films on show.

Although there are a fleet of Hollywood stars who attend film screenings, the UAE film festival is slightly under the radar, and retains an artisan quality, which is sometimes lost with 21st cinema. Instead of the somewhat sad attempts at cinematic brilliance which haunts our modern screens, the film festival is a celebration of the new style of films, which have been selected for your viewing pleasure.

For one week (until the 2nd of November), Emirati, Indian, Pakistani, European, African, and Chinese cinema will be shown at participating venues, so you can get your teeth well and truly stuck into some cool culture. The programme guide details film times, film directors and producers, and the previous work of the stated film makers.



It's going to be a fun week, so grab the popcorn, and get comfortable in the seats made for lounging because the cinema will be where it's all at.
