Abseiling in the Blue Mountains

Home > Sydney > Adventure | Sport | Outdoor
Published December 10th 2009
This is one for all the thrill seeksers out there bursting to challenge the limits each weekend. Abseiling (from the German: abseilen or "to rope down") is the controlled descent of a person down a rope from a cliff or other structure.

In and around Sydney you can access some amazing places by abseiling. The majority of providers work in and around the Blue Mountains where the landscape provides some amazing cliffs to work with.

Cliffs of up to 200 metres abound and most providers offer begginner courses for those without experience and include lunch after the expedition. Experienced guides will teach you about abseiling basics including ropes and knots required and cliff line safety. Instructors can even abseil down beside you if you are feeling apprehensive.

Be warned though jumping down cliffs does require a basic level of fitness and can be mighty tiring. Be ready for an action packed day! Ready to take up the challenge? Try the following outfits who can get you on your way.
