Glance up at the tallest building on the Adelaide skyline on Friday the 10th or Saturday the 11th of April. You will see an unusual sight. Bold, big-hearted adventurers will be descending Westpac House on the outside of the building. You too have the opportunity to step outside the Westpac building from the 34th floor with just rope and a harness between you and the ground.

AnglicareSA is offering 160 brave souls the exclusive opportunity to step over the edge of Westpac House and boldly abseil the 34 storeys to the ground below!

SA is open to anyone over 16 (with parental permission and a chaperone if under 18), regardless of fitness or ability. Zenith Events , an adventure and abseil company with a 100 per cent safety record, are overseeing the event. Qualified abseil professionals will prepare and guide each participant each step of the way.

Descents will take place approximately every 15 to 30 minutes throughout the day from three abseil locations at the top of the building.

Peter Sandeman, CEO of AnglicareSA, is not idly urging other people to undertake an activity that he would avoid. In spite of describing himself as 'a professional coward who is especially scared of heights' he has committed to participating in the abseil and invites others to 'join me and test the limits!'

Can I really abseil safely off a building?

The abseil will be managed by qualified professionals from Zenith Events. Their experienced staff will provide all participants with sufficient onsite training to effectively descend the building. The roping infrastructure systems and abseil procedures developed by Zenith Events result in safe descent experiences. All equipment provided by Zenith Events meets or exceeds Australian Standards. Participants are secured by 2 ropes, one of which is 100% controlled by a Zenith Events dispatcher. Even if you are a hesitant first time abseiler, they will ensure you have a fun experience and arrive at the ground with a grinning sense of achievement.

Tell me about Anglicare

AnglicareSA supports 55,000 South Australians each year. In their words, 'We support everyone from before birth to death and every life stage in between. We're here for young parents, for battling families, for refugees and for older people. We're here for foster children, for people who are unemployed, for people with disabilities and for people experiencing homelessness. AnglicareSA are here for the people everyone else has given up – and we've been doing it for more than 150 years.'

This is a unique fundraising event in South Australia. It is being held in International Autism month. All the funds raised from the abseil will go towards the Autism Specific Early Learning and Care Centre.

Autism Specific Early Learning and Care Centre

The Autism Specific Early Learning and Care Centre opened in 2009 and was the first autism early learning centre in the state. Special consideration was given to the design of the lighting, textiles, acoustics, surfaces, space, and layout in order to to meet the specific sensory needs of children with autism.

What are you waiting for? Register. Take the stairs to the top. Take the rope to the ground. Take the plunge! You can help these kids to have a better life.
