An upcoming workshop lead by Allan Sumner will explore Aboriginal culture before and after European settlement. Including the impact of colonisation and contemporary issues facing Aboriginal people today. This is a one off workshop to be held on Wednesday, 15th of July from 5.30pm to 8.30pm at the Effective Living Centre in Wayville.

Allan Summer - Biography
Allan Sumner is an accomplished South Australian artist. He is a descendant of three Aboriginal peoples being the Ngarrindjeri people from the lower river and lakes of the Murray River along the Coorong, the Adelaide plains Kaurna people and the Yankunytjatjara people from central Australia. He is passionate about his culture and people, particularly in learning about the stories that have been passed down the generations through his elders.

Allan has been painting for 15 years with his contemporary style evolving over the last 5. His art has been exhibited across South Australia and also in Canada. Allan mainly paints acrylics on canvas, although his art has been found on boomerangs, didgeridoos and emu eggs.

Allan produces amazing pieces utilising bright earthy tones as well as the cooler ocean colours. Beautiful blends of dot work morph into different patterns, which evoke movement in his paintings that can mesmerise an observer for hours. As well as being a visual artist, Allan is a singer, songwriter, musician, producer and storyteller. Allan has previously been an artist in residence at the Effective Living Centre in April 2015.
