When you're dreaming about your favourite flaky pastry in Adelaide, surely Abbots and Kinney comes to mind. Purveyors of in-house baked goods pushed to the limits of flavour and texture, they're simply a must-visit.



I've not had anything I've hated here. I've ordered their lemon and coconut croissant more than once and even though it's probably the same croissant as their plain one, for some unreasonable reason the dough just seems better. Flakier, crispier, and spongier on the inside. The thin glaze is absolutely perfect to me, straddling that fine balance between cloyingly sweet and indulgently moreish.

If you're a massive sweet tooth please get the custard pastry dipped in caramelised sugar. Some might call this sinful but I say it's ideal with a coffee. It's layers upon layers of brittle, buttery pastry that comes together with the creamy, custard filling.



And their pizza! This was topped with pepperoni and ham. Gosh, I was so sceptical when someone suggested we get that but boy, it was good! The exterior of the dough was crisp yet remained bouncy and fluffy with a slight chew interiorly. They also do a selection of toasties here which I've yet to try but are certainly on my wishlist next time.



The Moroccan lamb sausage roll was also excellent. I liked the toasted nuts inside and the sweetness of the jam helped with toning down the heat of the spicy filling.



The doughnut was like a gourmet Krispy Kreme, with a touch of citrus.



My fear with bakeries is they may have great food but I may need to get my coffee fix elsewhere. Good thing the coffee quality here is certainly on par with their delicious treats. Find Abbots and Kinney on Unley Road. They're open weekdays 7.00 AM to 2 PM, Saturdays 7.00 AM to 1.30 PM and Sundays 8.00 AM to 1.30 PM. Or check out their other stores in the CBD and Croydon.
