A sojourn in India is often compared to an assault on the senses. The country's exotic sounds, vivid colours, tantalising smells and subtle tastes combine to create an unforgettable cultural experience that captivates and beguiles both the first-time visitor and the seasoned traveller. Over the centuries, innumerable artists have been seduced by India's magic, attempting to convey their impressions and experiences to a wider audience through their work, and contemporary Mumbai-based photographer Jay Weinstein is one such individual.

Born in the United States to an American father and Australian mother, Jay's first encounter with India was as a young child when his school teacher parents moved to the historic ashram town of Vrindavan to teach. Growing up in such a culturally rich environment created a deep impression upon Jay, and although the family moved to Australia during his teen years so he could complete his education here, he continued to return for visits until 2004, when he moved to Mumbai with the intention to stay.

As a Westerner who speaks fluent Hindi, it wasn't long before Jay found work in the film industry with a variety of roles in television shows, movies and commercials. From there he explored film production and advertising, moving eventually into the freelance travel photography career that he now fully embraces. Travelling throughout his adopted homeland and beyond, Jay captures spectacular landscapes, fascinating cultures, monumental architecture, mystical ceremonies and much more through his photography, with the aim of sharing it with others and thereby raising cultural awareness.

Following his popular series of presentations in Western Australia last year, this August Jay is returning to town for two more – once again, titled 'A Wanderer's Eye', During these, Jay will once again share fascinating images of his latest adventures, accompanied with often-humorous tales of life on the road, sweet kirtan (traditional devotional music) and a guided meditation, topped off with a delicious vegetarian supper at its conclusion.

Whether you're a photography enthusiast, have a fascination for India's ancient spiritual traditions, or are simply an armchair traveller, 'A Wanderer's Eye' is certain to be a unique and very special evening, bringing to suburban Perth some of the infinite colour and magic of India.

The first of these events will be held at Inglewood Civic Centre – located at 895 Beaufort Street, Inglewood - on Sunday, August 20 at 6pm. The second will be held at 6pm on Saturday, August 26, at Cottesloe Civic Centre, which is situated at 109 Broome Street. Admission is $15.00, including supper.
