My husband and I enjoyed a leisurely time at Lysterfield Lake Park over the Queen's Birthday weekend. We arrived a bit late for lunch at Trailmix but found they still had some items that could be toasted for lunch.

Although it was a cold day, the sun was out and the sky was blue and so off we went for a walk around the lake. If you take the shortcut track it's a 5.5 kilometre loop going over the dam wall and up Snipes Track and along the hill.

We chose to walk along Acacia Trail as there is less foot traffic there and no bikes and we were able to see kangaroos lazing in the sun and enjoy the various different birds flitting from tree to tree.

The return walk along the nature conserve trail was a concern though. Seeing people riding their bikes along a trail that is clearly marked at both ends 'no bikes' means people have a blatant disregard for the rules at the park. Also seeing a couple walking their dog across the dam wall was another concern - again, this is a nature reserve and dogs are not allowed in the park. There are signs at the drive entries around the park.

Despite those who take no notice of the rules, we enjoyed our time around the park and watched a pair of kangaroos mating and saw a bird we'd not noticed before, a white-eared honey eater. Below is a photo of a male Eastern Grey Kangaroo, which stands above 6 foot when upright.
