I am an academic and writer living in Melbourne. I love to travel and I also love writing about all the things Melbourne, regional Victoria and other parts of Australia have to offer.
Music Art and Gifts
Australia has its own traditional Christmas celebrations with Santa on the beach, seafood instead of roast turkey and warm weather instead of snow. Between now and then though there are lots of pre-Christmas events to attend. So this year why not celebrate a very European Christmas at the Art Gallery of NSW!
An Australian gift at A Very European Christmas
You can listen to the Choir of St James' King Street, one of the oldest musical establishments in Australia, performing songs with a French and Russian influence. You can enjoy some drinks and treats and you can shop for unique gifts too. The Gallery Shop has a great selection of gifts that often you can't find anywhere else. There are gifts for art lovers, for book lovers, for children, and for anyone else in your family or amongst friends, for whom it may be difficult to buy that special gift. There are lots of lovely Christmas decorations with an Aussie theme, as well as a Russian theme reflecting the current Masters of modern art from the Hermitage museum exhibition.
The exhibition Masters of modern art from the Hermitage museum showcases masterpieces by Monet, CÚzanne, Matisse and many other art masters and runs until March 2019. There are other exhibitions to see at the gallery, including indigenous art and permanent exhibits by Australian artists.
A very European Christmas is a free event and is suitable for the whole family as everyone can join in the festive art-making workshop (this workshop is also available on Sundays 2, 16 December 2018, 11am-3.30pm and Sunday 9 December 2018, 10am-3pm.
Perhaps some cat babuska dolls at the art-making workshop?
