There is no shortage of excellent cafes and bakeries in Melbourne. In fact, Melbourne is known for its coffee and is one of the cities in the world where you can expect to satisfy your caffeine craving at any one of the thousands of coffee shops.

Despite the well-accepted fact that Melbournians are spoilt for choice when it comes to coffee, there are some cafes that leave a mark on your palate (if not your soul). is one such cafe with a soul. One stop and you will know exactly what I mean.

Located in a most exquisite spot on City Road, behind Crown Complex / Southbank, this traditional French patisserie is easily recognizable among the clusters of surrounding high-rises as it is situated in a historic white building. There is plenty of room to sit inside, but if it's a sunny day, there is seating outside as well.



We stumbled on it during our weekend getaway at the Crown Complex, and we went looking for "treasures" around the area. It was a delight just to walk into this cafe which has preserved a piece of the city's history. The pastries and croissants looked delicious, but we wanted to try to the fresh orange juice being squeezed right before our eyes. What a taste of heavenly delight it was. My son tried a slice of New York cheesecake and I couldn't resist a chocolate croissant. My husband got a savoury delight and my daughter went for a macaron.



Needless to say we were not disappointed. The cheesecake was light, fluffy, and the flavours were balanced. Best part: it was not overly sweet. The chocolate croissant was fresh and crunchy. The everlasting impression was that the place offers great service and fresh products.

We had the pleasure of enjoying a little bit of France in the heart of Melbourne. We can't wait to go back and try some more treats. If you are visiting this part of town, take a few minutes to look this place up and walk in, just for a visual treat if not anything else.
