The Redland City Council and Straddie Chamber of Commerce have joined forces to present the inaugural A Taste of Straddie; a week-long winter festival to entice visitors to the island.
Held to coincide with school holidays, from June 23 to June 30, 2012, A Taste of Straddie will showcase the best of Stradbroke Island: succulent seafood, whale watching, and four wheel drive tours.
Visitors can enjoy cocktails with whales, barefoot bowls, camel rides on the beach, beach cricket, and beach yoga. Meander the Straddie Markets or take some surfing lessons. Join in a treasure hunt around Amity Point or watch a movie under the stars at the Straddie Stardust Community Cinema. Kids movies are screened at 5:30pm followed by popular or art house films at 8pm, with live music in between. LINES in the SAND Arts Festival will run concurrently with A Taste of Straddie. Take part in one of their workshops: weaving, kite making, or ochre and sand art.
Straddie's Hotel will celebrate its fiftieth birthday on Saturday, June 30 with A Taste of Straddie Finale Party; from 5pm until late. Highlights include live music, free platters, and a barbecue in the beer garden.
