The Portuguese community and Queen Victoria Market are celebrating the Portuguese National Day with their annual Taste of Portugal Festival on Sunday 12th June 2016 at the Queen Victoria Market. Starting at 9am, the festival atmosphere is sure to be a full-blown party rich with Portuguese culture, cuisine, history and tourism information.

There will be a rainbow of colour on display. Browse then buy from a selection of beautiful Portuguese ceramics, jewellery and handbags. There will be loads of Portuguese styled merchandise for sale. Taste some Portuguese food with specialty custard tarts, gourmet delights, street food and beverages on offer. There will even be cooking demonstrations throughout the day. Learn how to make Portuguese paella.

Dance to some great Brazilian rhythms and be treated to some traditional Portuguese Fado singers accompanied by an acoustic guitar. Take an impromptu Samba dance class right in the heart of the market, and see how the experts do it during a capoeira dance exhibition.

Enquire about visiting Portugal at one of the tourism and cultural displays, and find out how you can learn to speak the language right here in Melbourne. There will be art and photographic displays along with plenty more to see and do. Kids will enjoy a range of activities designed specifically for them including puppet theatre, face painting, drawing competitions, book readings and handicraft demonstrations.

A Taste of Portugal is a celebration of all Portuguese-speaking communities including Portugal, Brazil and East Timor and is being held in conjunction with the City of Melbourne, the Victorian Multicultural Commission and several other Portuguese businesses. The festival attracts more than 10,000 people annually.

A full day of colour, food and fun, the Taste of Portugal Festival is being held at the Queen Victoria Market, Cnr Elizabeth & Victoria Streets, Melbourne on Sunday 12th June 2016, running all day from 9 am. Admission is free.
